I thought you guys were all very annoying, twee, and fake until you started trashing "Napolean Dynamite" and "Garden State" when I started to think you might not be as empty headed as you sound (west coast thing?). The music is really good.

Seth: "Being yourself" and "hoping to live up to other people's expectations" are difficult things to achieve simultaneously. Your insistence that "we can't be anything but ourselves" is true, I suppose, but only trivially true.

I'm sorry for being such a killjoy here: I really do like your music. And this puzzles me. It's somewhat alienating to discover that you like the music of people whom you dislike. For instance, I found your discussion of poor people who have too many kids abhorrent. No doubt, you probably wouldn't like me either if you met me. I guess aesthetic sensibility and interpersonal compatibility have little to do with each other, or at least less than I imagine. And maybe that's ok. I mean, you don't have to marry me or anything.

Wow, Jerry, you're really invested in not liking us (three posts?).

Just so everyone knows, I was the one who was horrendous in the discussion of procreating. And it was wrong, I agree! It was probably the worst thing we've said on the podcast (though Jerry, you might be able to think of more points of contention).

However, I don't recall saying anything about poor people having children-- if I recall correctly, I was talking about people who have very decent salaries-- enough that they can get by on one income. My point was that it amazes me how some women with lots of children can let their health go. My comment was glib. It was obviously a horrible discussion, and would be offensive to many people I know and love. When it comes down to it, I honor all women who raise their children the best way they know how, no matter the number, no matter the income.

My friends, I am sorry (and to Jerry, too).

Not only do I love the show, I don't think it a wise idea for ANYONE to pop out a whole mess of offspring, overpopulation considered, but I think it a doubly poor idea if one's financial struggles place them well, well below the poverty line.

Of course, I also eat Twinkies, so I don't know that I would trust anything I have to say.
